Challenges

Digital devices are deeply integrated into daily life, making conversations about screen time both relevant and sensitive. The goal of this poster was not to discourage technology use outright, but to promote balance, awareness, and restoration—helping students think about when screens serve them and when it may be time to unplug.

Key considerations included:

  • Presenting research-backed information without overwhelming viewers
  • Addressing physical, mental, and emotional impacts in a compact format
  • Designing a poster relatable to middle and high school students
  • Avoiding a hyper-digital aesthetic for a topic centered on disconnection

The piece needed to feel supportive rather than prescriptive, as well as visually engaging in shared spaces.

Strategy & Approach

I approached the design as  something that would invite reflection rather than demand attention.

  • Hand-drawn illustration style
The poster was illustrated digitally using my loose, hand-drawn approach to intentionally contrast with the topic of screen saturation. The organic line work and textures help soften the subject and make the content feel human and approachable.
  • Brand-aligned but visually refreshing palette
Healthy Champions brand colors were used as a foundation, with thoughtful variation to create warmth and visual interest while maintaining brand consistency across the program.
  • Balance of data and encouragement
Rather than focusing solely on negative outcomes, the poster emphasizes recharging, rest, and intentional choices—framing digital wellness as an act of self-care.

Outcomes & Impact

The poster supports Healthy Champions’ mission by:

  • Encouraging healthier digital habits without shame or pressure
  • Making wellness information approachable and visually engaging
  • Creating a calming visual presence in educational settings

The project demonstrates how thoughtful illustration and information design can reframe a technology-heavy topic into a calm, human-centered wellness message that encourages reflection and balance.
