Challenges

SaferĀ® Brand offers a variety of deer repellents designed to protect gardens and landscaping. Rather than leading with product claims alone, the goal of this page was to educate first: helping customers understand why deer behave the way they do and how different deterrent strategies work.

The page needed to function as both a learning resource and a soft pathway to product discovery.

Key considerations included:

  • Explaining deer behavior in a clear, approachable way
  • Presenting a large amount of information without overwhelming users
  • Designing for both desktop and mobile experiences
  • Integrating product recommendations without interrupting the educational flow

This required a visual and structural approach that felt more like a guided lesson than a traditional sales page.

Strategy & Approach

I approached the project as an illustrated, responsive learning experience.

  • Visual storytelling through illustration
    Most of the page was illustrated by hand on an iPad using Apple Pencil. The illustrations establish a friendly, accessible tone while helping users quickly grasp key concepts like (a) which plants deer are attracted to, (b) which plants deer tend to avoid, and (c) how landscaping choices influence deer behavior.
  • Information hierarchy through sections
    Content is broken into clear, skimmable sections: (a) plants deer love vs. plants deer hate, (b) do’s and don’ts for deer deterrence, and (c) practical, actionable tips homeowners can apply immediately.
  • Educational-first product integration
    Rather than leading with products, SaferĀ® Brand’s deer repellents are introduced after the educational foundation is established—positioned as tools that support the strategies users have just learned.

Outcomes & Impact

The landing page demonstrates how educational design can:

  • Build trust with consumers
  • Improve comprehension of complex topics
  • Support purchasing decisions without feeling sales-driven

By framing deer repellents within a broader educational context, the page positions SaferĀ® Brand as a helpful expert rather than just a product manufacturer.
