Challenges

Over time, the Learning Center grew into a vast library of articles covering a wide range of pest control topics. While the depth of content was valuable, the experience became increasingly difficult for users to navigate.

With multiple contributors publishing over several years, the Learning Center functioned more like a ā€œjunk drawerā€ than a guided learning experience, making it harder for users to find the most relevant information quickly.

Key challenges included:

  • A large volume of legacy content with inconsistent organization
  • Multiple user entry points and search behaviors
  • Users seeking quick, scenario-based answers rather than long browsing sessions
  • The need to balance education with gentle product guidance

Google Analytics data confirmed that users were repeatedly gravitating toward a small number of high-interest topics, while other valuable resources remained buried.

Strategy & Approach

I approached the redesign as a learning experience rather than a content archive.

  • Data-informed hierarchy
The Learning Center homepage was restructured around the three most visited article categories, creating immediate clarity and reducing cognitive load.
  • Scenario-based pathways
From the main categories, the experience drills down into articles related to specific pest issues and real-world scenarios, mirroring how users actually think about their problems.
  • Progressive guidance
Rather than overwhelming users with options, the layout encourages step-by-step exploration, allowing users to self-direct based on relevance.
  • Strategic tool placement
Toward the footer, I designed ad modules to highlight interactive tools and solution finders that support decision-making without interrupting the educational flow.

Outcomes & Impact

The redesigned Learning Center created a clearer, more intuitive experience that:

  • Reduced friction for users seeking specific pest solutions
  • Highlighted SaferĀ® Brand’s most valuable educational content
  • Supported consumers in moving from learning to action with confidence

The project demonstrates how thoughtful information architecture can transform large content libraries into approachable, user-centered learning systems.
